Product Description

Fabcel vibration isolation pad is manufactured using the same nitrile compound developed in 1962. The properties of the Fabcel pad are designed to provide low frequency vibration isolation and reduction of impact shock.

Fabcel nitrile pad has been used for over 40 years for mounting machinery and sensitive equipment where absorption of impact shock or isolation of transmitted vibration is desired. Fabcel pads may be bonded together (“layered”) to achieve the desired isolation efficiency for any application.

Fabcel material is available as isolation washers and OEM parts.

KEY FEATURES/BENEFITS

  • Fabcel pad can withstand loads up to 300 psi.
  • Fabcel pad can have a vertical natural frequency as low as 5.0 Hz and a horizontal natural frequency as low as 3.0 Hz.
  • Fabcel pad has a high energy storage rate per unit volume which makes it ideal for certain shock isolation applications.

Technical Specifications

The unique “cell” (waffle) pattern on the Fabcel vibration isolation pad is specifically designed to maintain the proper shape factor for the pads when under load. This feature allows Fabcel pads to support more load than other rubber pads of the same size and thickness.

Fabcel pads have a damping rate of 6% of critical.

Fabcel pad is made from a nitrile compound and is therefore impervious to most oils and cutting fluids and is resistant to the effects of steam, water, mildew and brine. The effective temperature range is -20°F to 150°F.

Tensile Strength:

Fabcel Pads 25 50 and 200 100 and 300
Shore “A” Durometer Hardness 25 ± 5 50 ± 5 65 ± 5
Tensile Strength 2,000 psi 2,000 psi
Elongation 350% 250%
Resilience 52% 60%

Fabcel Pads are rated for loads as follows:

Pad Maximum Load Thickness
Fabcel 25 25 psi 5/16″
Fabcel 50 50 psi 5/16″
Fabcel 100 100 psi 5/16″
Fabcel 200 200 psi 1/2″
Fabcel 300 300 psi 1/2″

FAQ

What is shape factor?
Shape factor is a geometric measure (ratio) of surface area to the perimeter area allowed to expand laterally. Shape factor has an influence on the deflection and load limit properties of a material. Essentially rubber is an incompressible substance that deflects by changing shape rather than volume. The featured cell geometry on the surface of the Fabcel pads minimizes the shape factor usually associated with unreinforced, elastomeric (rubber) pad materials.

Does durometer affect the isolation efficiency of rubber pads?
Yes, durometer affects the isolation efficiency of rubber pads. The higher the durometer, the higher the stiffness. The stiffness of the spring (rubber pad) increases the natural frequency of the isolator, thus affecting the isolation efficiency.

How is damping different than isolation/absorption?
Please see Robert Haley’s paper on Isolation Theory, specifically pages 3 to 7.

Can Fabcel pad work as a shock isolator/damper?
Yes, Fabcel pad works as a shock isolator/damper by the dissipation of the kinetic energy (KE) generated by the shock event.

Can Fabcel pad be cut to size in the field?
Fabcel pad can be cut using scissors or a fine tooth saw blade. Holes can be cut using a fine tooth, narrow angle hole saw.

What adhesive is recommended to bond Fabcel to steel?
Fabreeka 2240-05 adhesive is recommended to bond Fabcel to steel. The steel surface should be sandblasted and the Fabcel pad buffed or abraded.

What is the temperature range for Fabcel material?
The temperature range for Fabcel material is -40° to 200° F.
