Foundations Isolated with Pneumatic Isolators

Fabreeka's® experience in vibration and shock control includes the design of seismic reaction masses and support foundations isolated by low-frequency pneumatic isolators.

The Fabreeka® PAL series pneumatic isolators and custom isolation systems incorporate adjustable damping, so that systems can be "tuned" on-site for large reaction forces and dynamic inputs.

Pneumatic isolation systems have been designed and installed with natural frequencies from 0.5 Hz to 2.5 Hz with payload capacities from 25,500 lbs to 120,000 lbs per isolator. Fabreeka® has the largest design base of low frequency pneumatic isolators in the world with these isolation and load rating characteristics.

Modal and structural analysis programs are used to design the foundations to meet the dynamic deflection and stiffness requirements and program isolation specifications.

The size and design of a support foundation depends on the operation of the equipment to be isolated and its stiffness or rigidity requirements of the equipment to be isolated. The natural frequency of the isolation system is established by the operating characteristics of the machine/equipment or the environment in which the machine is to be installed.

A vibration site survey/analysis will determine the levels of vibration existing at your site, which is essential for proper vibration control recommendations to be made.

Some features and benefits of pneumatic foundation isolation:

  • Ultra low frequency isolation
  • Natural frequencies as low as 0.5 Hz
  • Isolation system - tunable in the field

The basic approach to designing a stable, responsive isolation system is to locate the composite center of gravity of the total supported weight (foundation and payload) at or near the elastic plane of the pneumatic isolators in the vertical axis. This approach minimizes any rolling effects about the horizontal axes due to offset center of gravities or uneven load distribution patterns.

Some typical pneumatic foundation isolation applications include:

  • Dynamometers
  • Coordinate Measuring Machines
  • Vacuum Chambers
  • Test Rigs
  • Road Simulators
  • Electrodynamic Shakers
